It’s impossible to buy just one orange in an Athenian Farmers’ Market. I attempted to earlier today, but instead the seller gave it to me for free. It took me a while to catch on, since I have no knowledge of modern Greek, but she insisted and eventually one of my friends explained what was actually going on. Another man was walking by doing his own shopping and overheard our slow conversation. Three stalls later, he caught up with us and gave both of my friends their own (free!) oranges. This photo is the result. My friends had slightly better self-control than I did; mine is the half-eaten one.
Also? Best orange I’ve ever tasted.
